HICS SimCell™ on CD Features

* Reusable. Pack the printed components into a storage container and reuse. Print fresh components when needed.

* Consequence-Based Exercise. HICS SimCell™ on CD focuses on the impact of Hospital Command Center decisions on patients. Additional and downgraded patients that may result provide a measure for evaluating the performance of the Hospital Command Center staff.

* Customize-able. Use self-adhering notes or alter cards to customize exercise injects and resources.

* Staffed by Local Hospital Staff. No need for simulation cell specialists. The visual representations and self-evident flow diagrams on HICS SimCell™ Control Mats means that a hospital medical and administrative staff member can be a Controller.

* Control Mats. Resources, Triage, Patient Care and Administration Control Mats help HICS SimCell™on CD controllers organize and inject exercise events, track patients, and accurately process requests for simulated resources and information.

* Two-Way Exercise Interactions. A simulation cell provides the most realistic training experience for the Hospital Command Center.

* Print and Assemble Your Own Kit. HICS SimCell™ on CD is a template on CD-ROM for Microsoft Word® 97 and Excel® 97, or newer. Computer files include content for printing four Control Mats, five Illustrated Instruction Manuals, Event and Resource Cards, assembly instructions, and list of needed printing supplies. Also included is a Master Scenario Events List (MSEL) Generator in Excel®, and a narrated PowerPoint® Training presentation for controllers.

* Forms. Pre-Exercise Checklist for planning and set-up. Exercise and Control Mat Results sheets for consolidating patient status at the end of an exercise. HICS SimCell™ on CD replacement cards, forms, and checklists like the Checklist, below, can also be printed from Microsoft® Word® files on a CD.

* Training. A 35-minute PowerPoint presentation can train an individual or a group of Controllers in less than an hour! The animated and narrated Microsoft PowerPoint® presentation demonstrates how to operate each control mat and is a quick way to become familiar with the HICS SimCell™.

* Instruction Manuals. In addition to the Training PowerPoint, each Control Mat has its own Instruction Manual with plenty of illustrations for setting up and operating the control mat. * Event Cards

Event Cards drive the message traffic from the HICS SimCell™ on CD control mats. Chronological Event Cards are cues to controllers to Report events, Request resources or information, and to update patient flow and condition Results.

The Event Card method for injecting messages is flexible and simple, and can simulate any exercise scenario.

Event Card Scenarios. Create various exercise scenarios by selecting from six decks of Event Cards:

Mass Casualties: Events related to any incident or disaster that causes numerous casualties.

CONTAMINATED Mass Casualties: Events Related to a large incident, involving toxic or hazardous materials including terrorism.

Patient Influx: Events related to any incident or disaster that results in numerous patients at a hospital.

Patient Evacuation: Events related to natural or man-made disasters and typical problems of a patient evacuation.

Information: Events related to local and state government involvement including requests for reports, public service announcements, protocols, and other documents.

Hospital Evacuation: Events related to natural or man-made disasters that reflect external problems of a hospital evacuation.

* Master Scenario Events List. Microsoft® Word® and Excel® files are included for generating a sorted Master Scenario Events List (MSEL) based on the Event Cards selected for an exercise.

 

* Space Requirements The HICS SimCell™ can operate from any conference room-sized location that has communications with the Hospital Command Center. A room that is 20 by 30 feet is ideal for a large exercise that uses all four HICS SimCell™ control mats.
