Tab G to Annex E, Updated 9/98

Terrorism
Contents    LOG

Considerations:

A Terrorism incident involving a Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD-nuclear, chemical or biological warfare, see Glossary, Basic Plan, Tab E) will likely require mass decontamination.

A Weapon of Mass Destruction can be 1,000 times more lethal than industrial hazardous materials.

Fire & Rescue responders will need replacement personal protection equipment since contaminated equipment will be bagged and left for technical decontamination later on (Tab A, Annex E).

See Equipment Resource List for Terrorism, Tab N, Annex A for special items.

Run-off water from emergency decontamination operations may contaminate downstream water drains and sources.

Chemical: Larger amounts of water will hydrolyze and dilute chemical agents to some extent and should not present a major problem downstream.

Radiological: Expect run-off water to spread the contamination downstream

Biological: Downstream contamination will vary depending on the type of bio agent and how it survives in the environment.
